GERMANY: Coated PET bottles for sensitive beverages

News 🇬🇧

posted Friday 30 October 2020

The Bundesrat (upper house of the German parliament) voted to extend the compulsory deposit to all plastic bottles and beverage cans.

The solution for juice producers to recycle bootles in closed loop is to use an ultra-thin chemically pure glass barrier coating to recycle their bottles. For several years, renowned bottlers such as Eckes-Granini have used the KHS Group FreshSafe PET system environmentally friendly packaging system. By offering complete protection against oxygen uptake, loss of CO2 and water vapor, the Plasmax coating guarantees the quality of the sensitive drink that keeps up to ten times longer than a standard plastic bottle. The KHS group also launched Beyond Juice Bottle, the first PET bottle made from recycled materials, having obtained 20 points out of 20 in the Interseroh rating system for obtaining the Made for Recycling quality label.
