Traceability extended to IML packaging

Polytag has partnered with Multi-Color Corporation (MCC) to integrate its invisible UV tags directly into in-mould labelled (IML) packaging.

Readable by dedicated detection equipment installed at sorting facilities, these digital identifiers can carry precise data on the packaging’s material composition, recycled content, origin and manufacturing. They can therefore improve identification and sorting while enhancing the quality of recycled material streams. The technology is particularly suited to demanding applications, such as frozen food packaging, where traditional labels may be less appropriate. The collected data is then made available to brands through the Polytag platform, enabling them to track what happens to their packaging, optimise its design and better meet Extended Producer Responsibility requirements. A demonstration conducted with GS1 and Pellenc ST confirmed the technology’s potential for the advanced sorting of IML packaging.
