Berry Global launches 100% sugarcane-based HDPE bottle

News 🇬🇧

posted Monday 30 November 2020

For its cold-pressed cane water elixir, Bhoomi (which means “Mother Earth” in Sanskrit) switched to a 100% sugarcane-based bottle supplied by Berry Global Inc.

Made from a certified I’m Green material from Braskem and fully recyclable, the bio-based bottle was introduced last August at select Whole Foods Markets in New York and New Jersey, then will be in Texas, Louisiana and California. This is one of the first sugarcane-based bottles to be produced commercially by Berry on standard manufacturing line in a custom mold. As part of a Packaging Climate Optimization project, in partnership with Climate Collaborative and Trayak, the Lifecycle analysis (LCA) results showed a 22% reduction in water consumption and 89.5% of greenhouse gas emissions (12 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year) and 62.6% of fossil fuel consumption.
