Luxury packaging specialist Pusterla 1880 has further strengthened its international manufacturing footprint and long-term presence in the Mediterranean region with the opening of a second plant in Tunisia. The £4 million investment in Pusterla 1880 Tunisie, with a further £3 million planned for future expansion, enhances Pusterla 1880’s capabilities in supporting leading global beauty, fragrance, premium drinks and jewellery brands with advanced luxury packaging solutions.

The 10,000m2 facility, based in Sousse, near Monastir, combines state-of-the-art automated production and manual assembly for the manufacture of high-impact rectangular and round boxes and specialist packs, such as advent calendars, with a strong focus on quality, precision and attention to detail.

The new factory reinforces Pusterla’s ability to offer an end-to-end service from concept and design through to manufacturing and co-packing. For UK customers, it complements the support available through Pusterla 1880’s Dover operation, backed by strategically located manufacturing sites worldwide to help brands move quickly from brief to shelf.

“Tunisia has increasingly established itself as a major industrial player with a skilled workforce and strong connections with Europe,” said Nathan Fage, Business Development Manager of Pusterla 1880 UK. “For the reason, the country is an important part of our Proximity Strategy, which aims to ensure we remain close to our customers not just geographically but also in terms of service quality and flexibility for effective project development.”

With a team of 260 which, together with the existing Tunisian site, brings the total workforce to around 600 people, Pusterla 1880 Tunisie combines technology and know-how in the delivery of high-end secondary packaging. As well as advanced production technologies, ongoing investment will also focus on training, workplace safety, sustainability and the development of local skills.

The official opening of the new facility was attended by local and international dignitaries and industry partners. These included Andrea Prunas, Italy’s Ambassador for Tunisia, and Mourad Fradi, President of the Tunisian Chamber of Commerce, whose participation highlighted the strategic important of the Pusterla 1880 investment for both the local territory and the continued development of industrial cooperation between Tunisia and Europe.

“One of the key roles of luxury packaging is to provide effective brand guardianship, promoting, enhancing and protecting a product’s premium image and positioning,” said Nathan Fage. “Our new Tunisia factory will further enhance our ability to match the right capability to each project, while maintaining the quality and finish luxury brands demand.”
