Semi-automatic dispensing systems are ideally suited for labeling only a small number or different kinds of containers fast and at consistent levels of quality. The automated application solution from Schreiner MediPharm has now convinced healthcare company Octapharma. The long-standing customer of the Schreiner MediPharm business unit that specializes in healthcare solutions uses the automated labeling system for marking its smallest batches of vials and bottles flexibly, efficiently, and reliably.

Octapharma, like other pharmaceutical manufacturers, typically uses fully automatic dispensing systems for labeling large production volumes of its primary containers. For smaller batch sizes and a large variety of sorts, for instance serving smaller markets and different language versions, or for clinical trial drugs, this is highly uneconomical. That is why the labels are often applied manually—a time-consuming job that may not produce consistent quality.

Octapharma was seeking a faster as well as a precise and professional solution–and found it in the semi-automatic dispensing system designed by Schreiner MediPharm and the Schreiner Services competence center. The customized labeling system can be adapted individually to different container sizes, diameters, and shapes. It is easy to operate, allows for fast changeovers, and requires minimal space due to its compact design.

The pharmaceutical company is already using several of these dispensing systems. “We are able to label all products from the smallest vials to large bottles efficiently at high and, above all, consistent levels of quality. Compared to previous manual application processes, this reduces the workload of our employees noticeably. As a result, handling of small batch sizes has been professionalized and become clearly more economical,” sums up Brigitta Nehrer, Production Management and Deputy Head of Visual Inspection & Packaging Operations from Octapharma.
