Harmann Packaging is strengthening the future of food packaging by aligning its Fiberwise® MAP trays with advanced processing technologies such as the Sairem Microwave Pasteurisation solution. Sairem enables ready meals and components to be pasteurized for safer and healthier products that extend shelf life and preserve taste and goodness while eliminating the use of preservatives or additives.

This collaboration highlights how fiber-based packaging can support innovative food treatment methods, enabling improved product safety and enhanced quality, without compromising sustainability goals. “FiberWise® trays by Hartmann Packaging are yet another promising concept to bridge the demand for alternatives to plastic trays and a modern innovative product treatment like the Sairem Microwave Pasteurisation Solution,” explains Christina Frohm Kramer, Business Development Manager, Food at Sairem.

The solution is engineered for seamless adoption. Compatible with existing high-speed denesting and tray-sealing equipment, FiberWise® trays offer a plug-and-play approach that requires minimal operational changes, building on Hartmann Packaging’s more than 100 years of expertise in moulded fibre technology.

FiberWise® trays replace traditional rigid PET and PP trays in fresh protein and convenience
food applications, reducing plastic content by up to 90%. This enables manufacturers to
significantly lower their environmental footprint while supporting circular economy initiatives.

Kati Ørskov, Business Development at Hartmann Packaging, comments: “As the packaging
industry faces increasing disruption from geopolitical tensions and supply chain instability,
many producers of ready meals are experiencing the challenges tied to fossil-based plastics,
ranging from price volatility to raw material shortages and limited availability.

For producers who pasteurise their ready meals, FiberWise® now offers a proven packaging
solution that combines operational reliability with a stable supply base. Based on locally
sourced fibre materials, FiberWise® helps manufacturers reduce dependence on fossil resources while securing a scalable, resilient alternative for long-term planning.”

FiberWise® trays have been certified as technically recyclable in standard paper mills
according to the Cepi method. This allows the packaging to be recycled without separating the
barrier liner from the fibre tray, simplifying disposal for consumers and enabling efficient
integration into established paper recycling systems.
